In this collection of work, I aim to describe a transitional phase many artists experience in the years following obtaining a bachelor’s degree. For myself, this period has been characterized by the nexus of profound introspection of identity, financial strain, and the juggling of multiple employment roles. The spoilage of fruit becomes a symbolic visual for the perceived inability to live up to my full potential after undergrad. This concept of rotting vegetation is consciously romanticized through bright colors and tender brushstroke. However, a challenging turn permeates the more current paintings: religious undertones mix with thriving and dying flora and fauna in speckled reflective pieces. The trajectory of an artist’s practice beyond their early professional years is rarely linear. My own process is one of continual reflection, where past works inform and resurface in new pieces, weaving an evolving narrative of growth, uncertainty, and reinvention.
